Landscape and portrait – Ed Fairburn

5 Dec

“Wrinkles show the journey of a man.”

Some great portraits here from Ed Fairburn.   The maps used help to carve characteristics into each portrait using harsh lines and contours.  There is a sharp contrast between the mechanical cage of the roads and organic feel of the portrait.  Some seem stationary whereas others look as if they are about to move off the page.  An interesting combination of graphic art.  Who’d have thought you could have landscape and portrait?

Carl Warner – A world of food

8 Nov

These food landscapes, or foodscapes, are some of the best we’ve seen.  The shear variety and ingenuity that Carl Warner has portrayed seems effortless.  Coupled with the use of lighting and effects he brings these scenes to life.  They are more like gateways into another world than photographs.  What’s more, a book is being published with these in and it looks like it’ll be well worth the purchase!  Mmm…

Jen Stark – The colour sculptor

25 Sep

Jen Stark‘s work is gloriously beautiful.  The explosion of colour and intricacy in the patterns hypnotize your eyes into a peaceful serenity.  Such exposure to rich colours mimics that found in nature, but these man-made versions are perfectly crafted and look like they’re from another planet.  Great stuff to check out.

Super Silo – Super vector art

18 Sep

Super silo has a unique method when it comes to creating vector art.  Photoshop and Illustrator are the only tools he uses to produce these 3D posters, including a quick sketch for reference, but the way in which he does it is very clever.  Just watch one of his videos to see how these masterpieces are produced and constructed from the ground up.

Francoise Nielly – a world of images

13 Sep

Francoise Nielly’s website is instantly striking due to the contrasts of colour.  The bright neon paint is blocked in by what seems to be the thickest black on the internet.  What’s more striking though is her actual work.  Unique in style, she mostly uses a palette knife instead of a brush.  She scrapes a variety of portraits out and the results are wonderful.
