Take a photo of the speed of light

22 Aug

When people say such sweeping statements as “It’s all been done before” or “you can never be original”  you need only look at our history to realise they are wrong.

As organisms we continually evolve from what we were before and this is mirrored in what we create.   Just when we think we’ve reached the pinnacle, someone decides to fly.  The idea of progression.  People are inventing new things all the time and every once in a while there is an invention that is a game changer.  Something so big that it has the potential to bring about great new things.

One such example may have just been found according to Ramesh Raskar.  His team has managed to photograph the speed of light showing how it travels through the air and objects.  He explains the possibilities and what this could mean to health care, art and new technology.

Apparently this is how we will see through walls…

Adam Spizak – Illustration and Design

8 Aug

Now and again we stumble upon something that’s just a little bit special.  Something that has the refreshing ability to quench our creative thirst and to show us something new.  Whether this be a final product, a method or a meaningless thought it moves you out of the norm and dumps you into something beyond where you used to reside.

Adam Spizak has done just that with his amazing collection of illustrations.  His work has a detailed quality that is his trademark and he uses a myriad of techniques to achieve his goals through 4D software, illustration, photography and Photoshop.  The product of which is breath-taking to say the least.

YouTube is a platform that can make a success story through the power of a single viral video.  Devin Graham, a man passionate about photography and film, has taken his much loved hobby and managed to grow it into a career.

His videos often focus on those lucky few that live life to the fullest.  So far covering extreme sports, events and great locations, he is now branching out into even more adventurous avenues.  Updating his content weekly it is one of the few YouTubers that continually puts out great videos.  His level of cinematography is one that professionals strive for and he has a clear talent.  What’s more, he provides behind the scenes footage to help others follow suit, openly answering questions through comments on his channel.

What’s interesting about his videos is the success he brings to those who are involved in the creation.  Writing on his blog he describes how he got to where he is today.  The main underlying factor, he insists, is collaboration.  People with the same interests working together to achieve similar goals.  He has boosted sales in products featured in his videos, music used in his films have become worldwide hits and the exposure to artists has made them bigger stars than programs such as America’s Got Talent achieved – which has an audience of over 11 million viewersThe power of YouTube is definitely evident and he did all his work for free for the first year and a half of filming.  We’ll be keeping an eye on this one!

The Vandenberg: Life Below the Surface

1 Aug

Andreas Franke, photographer, has created a unique underwater gallery.  Attaching pictures to the sides of a shipwreck, 145 feet under the sea, you need scuba gear to get a glimpse of the work as it was intended to be viewed.  The atmosphere it creates is ghost-like and mythical.

London Puddles

30 Jul

This eerie collection of photos depicts London’s most iconic landmarks from a different angle.  Reflected through London’s ever present puddles it captures a styled quality often mirrored in old photography.  Also the absence of focus on one specific thing emphasises the mood of the photograph.  Albeit a sombre one.  Still they’re worth a look.
